Frequently Asked Business Questions
Below is a list of some of our most frequently asked business questions. Please note that we serve Person and Caswell Counties in North Carolina. Some of our answers will be specific to those areas. This list is a work in progress and will continue to grow. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us.
Where can I get a grant to start my business?
This is by far the most common question and unfortunately the answer does not prove satisfactory to most people. With few exceptions, there are not any grants to start a business. Sometimes you may be find one in an area that is a "priority" for the government such as alternative agriculture, bio fuels, curing cancer and similar businesses. If you are looking for a grant to start a shoe store, you can forget it
Also, you should stay away from those books and seminars that promise to get you a "...share of the millions that are being given away every day". They are the only ones who will be getting easy money,...yours! If you have a business that will qualify, there should be free assistance available to help you find the opportunities and apply for them. For example, if you are a farmer who is looking into bio fuels, call the Department of Agriculture or Cooperative Extension Service.

Do I need a license for my business ?
The easy answer is "That depends...". Licensing is dependent on where your business will be located and what type of business it is. In North Carolina, many cities and counties require a privilege license. To find out if you will need one, contact your city and county offices. The receptionist should be able to direct you to the correct department.
